Let me just start by saying that both Greg and I, we like a little bit of luxury from time to time. We do tend to, however, travel through rough, off the beaten path kind of places that don’t necessarily offer high-end conditions, so when an opportunity comes along, we like to take it. And that was the case with our short, spontaneous visit to Bangkok to stay at Solitaire Bangkok Hotel.
How to choose the perfect hotel in Bangkok?
Having spent around six months in Bangkok altogether before, we’ve had our good fare of experiences here. And as much as we love the rhythm of life in Bangkok and the greatness of this creature of a city, we always tend to escape areas such as the city center – to avoid traffic, overpricing, lower availability of legit street food and the loud noises.
Previously we’ve hidden in the back streets of Lat Phrao, Ramkhamhaeng and Hua Lamphong, so coming to stay in the heart of Sukhumvit for a change was new and exciting for us – we were finally going to get a seat in the front row to the big Bangkok show. After a year of hard work, we were both just excited to consider this trip to Bangkok a holiday, rather than a business trip or a necessity (even though it was – a necessity that is). Solitaire Bangkok Hotel was the perfect spot to start our latest journey around South East Asia.
Solitaire Bangkok Hotel
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the extremely polite and friendly staff of Solitaire Bangkok and even though we arrived at 10 am, the room was made available for us way before check-in time. It was the first instant at which we were surprised by how our expectations have been exceeded. Throughout our stay, we’d be often amazed by how professional, polite, and yet friendly everybody is. It adds personality to the brand and creates a lovely atmosphere.

Comfort at its best.
We checked in to our Grand Deluxe room on the second floor and loved the idyllic view of the outdoor swimming pool just below us. The room was spacious and modern; the king size bed one of the most comfortable ones we’ve slept in at any hotel, and the amenities available in the room made our arrival to Bangkok after a long-haul flight just so much easier.
The room was equipped with all the little things that make your stay just so much better – a minibar, a small fridge, a big flat screen tv, and a wide desk for anyone who needs working space when coming to Bangkok on business purposes.
The bathroom was filled with amenities you’d definitely appreciate when staying in Bangkok just for a quick stopover. The shower was good enough for two people (wink, wink) and with a little bench to sit down as you take a relaxing shower after a long day of sightseeing or working.
The swimming pool to DIE for & other features
The outdoor pool looked even better than in the photos and during our stay, it wasn’t crowded at all, much to our surprise. Going for a swim in the morning or just after sunset felt great and we couldn’t imagine a better start of our 12-month journey. It was also a great place to take some killer photos for our social media! Yes, digital nomads, this hotel is EXTREMELY Instagrammable.
Solitaire Bangkok Hotel’s features don’t end however only on the gorgeous pool. A fully equipped gym and a steam room are available at the guests’ convenience, so if you want to stay fit, the hotel definitely won’t stay in your way. You can only blame yourself if you don’t use all the perks available to you.
Club Sky Lounge on the sixteenth floor offers a sophisticated lounge, a private dining area and a terrace with some gorgeous views of the Bangkok skyline.
You’ll fall in love with the mornings!
Breakfast at Solitaire Bangkok was one of our favourite things about the stay! The meals were absolutely delicious! The buffet had dishes from various Asian and Western cuisines available – every day a different selection. We don’t eat big breakfasts usually, but here we couldn’t resist. We ate, and ate, and still struggled to try everything.
How to reach it and what’s nearby?
Solitaire Bangkok is located only a 5-minute walk from Nana BTS station and only 10 minutes from Terminal 21, one of our favourite shopping malls in Bangkok full of tasty food options and a variety of clothes – from international brands such as H&M to independent boutiques selling locally sourced clothing. The hotel provides free shuttle to Terminal 21 several times a day. Solitaire has a good central location close enough to public transport so that regardless where you need to go, you’ll find a connection that works.
Charitable work to support elephants.
What we really love about the branding of Solitaire Bangkok is that they proudly support and promote the Asian Elephant Foundation of Thailand that works to protect elephants and their habitats. It definitely happens too rarely at luxury hotels for us to overlook this while writing a review.
Who should stay at Bangkok Solitaire Hotel?
Who should stay at Bangkok Solitaire Hotel? With its amazing location in Sukhumvit area, we’d recommend it to both tourists visiting Bangkok who would like to have a taste of luxury and a good location to have access to public transport and also visitors coming to the city on business. People, who work online, just like us? The wifi there is super fast, too!
Why we LOVE Bangkok?
As I said at the beginning, coming to stay in Sukhumvit, we were a bit scared of some things that tend to be problematic in big cities. But as it turns our, Sukhumvit has lots of street food available, you just have to look closer in the back alleys. The noises of the city aren’t a struggle at all, as we were both shocked how quiet it was in our bedroom at night in Solitaire Bangkok. And there’s one more thing that Bangkok proved to us during this visit – that regardless where you’re staying, it is a very affordable city, especially to eat out. And there’s nothing more important in Thailand than food and smile – am I right?
Bangkok Solitaire Hotel: Conclusion!
We absolutely fell in love with Solitaire Bangkok Hotel. The way they treat customers is what other hotels should learn from them. The meals were delicious, our room was perfect for us, and the amenities made our stay at the hotel a wonderful relaxing experience especially after a long-haul flight. We already can’t wait to come back!
